The Shattered Dark Shadow Reader Sandy Williams Books
The Shattered Dark is the second in the Shadow Reader series and it's a great read. McKenzie Lewis just wanted to be a normal human but she has a gift for seeing Fae and the ability to read their shadows. She's caught in the Fae's war. She was in love with Kyol for 10 years but he used all kinds of reason to keep them apart. Aren is completely different. He has no problem showing her and the Fae that he loves her and will do anything for her. She's still trying to decide if her and Aren have a chance.McKenzie is a great character who has given up so much and done everything she can for what she believes. She believed that the Court Fae were doing the right thing and she believed it. Kyol was the King's swordsmen and she believed he knew what was happening and he was behind the right side. She's lost so much from this gift. She lost her parents and all friends except for Paige. She tried to get her degree but something always stood in her way. Aren has really just swept her off her feet. She's tried to take things slow and she wanted to make sure if they were together it was the right thing.
Aren and Kyol are both great characters but completely different. Aren was the rebel leader and was known as the face of the False Blood trying to take over the thrown. He wanted to put Sethan on the thrown but with his passing, he's supporting and helping Lena. Kyol was Atroth, the King's swordsmen, until he found out some of the terrible things that he had done. He ended up killing Atroth and he's there to support Lena. Both of them love and care about McKenzie. Kyol put his duty and tried to do what he thought was right by not being with McKenzie in the ten years they were together. He does love her but he should have stepped forward before. Aren has done everything he can to show McKenzie that he loves her and wants to be with her. He makes sure that she knows and everyone else knows that she's the one he wants. But Aren has some things from his past that he's not proud of and McKenzie learns of them.
I'm about to re-read the final book - The Sharpest Blade.

The Shattered Dark Shadow Reader Sandy Williams Books Reviews
After I finished this book I can't help but be disappointed.. sigh. When I finished the first book a couple of weeks ago I was so excited. But its follow up was a serious let down.
The author spent too much time revisiting every single event and idea from the first book that by the time we actual got to a new or continued storyline I was more than half way done with book. I skipped a lot of paragraphs because it was just mind babble. Honestly, we could have just continued the first book. It would have caused for a stronger cliffhanger.
At least we learned more about Aren in this book. Nothing good though. We also still don't have a clear antagonist but Lena and Mckenzie might be close to figuring it out. Will I stick around to find out who it really is? TBD.
I feel bad for Aren though. I feel even worse for Kyol. Paige's character annoys me and I'm not sure why she is even at the forfront of the novel. Plus I now realize how uninteresting Mckenzie is. She has zero skills except for shadow reading which isn't that impressive as it used to be. She can't draw, fight, or figure out her love life. She has no fire. I rather the author follow Aren pov than Mckenzie at this point... Mckenzie is a pretty weak main character if you ask me. I don't get the book cover either. She has yet to wield a sword correctly.
2 1/2 stars
The Shattered Dark picks up pretty much right where The Shadow Reader leaves off. McKenzie heads back to her place for a few things and discovers that her best friend Paige is gone. As in someone has made a mess of her apartment gone. So of course she has to go after her.
McKenzie in this book was still the same feisty heroine that she was in the first one. She is now in a relationship with Aren (this is not a spoiler- it is in the blurb). The relationship is completely adorable! He really is the guy for her. Strong, loyal, and most importantly able to put up with McKenzie. She is not difficult, but she definitely has some relationship issues. Which is understandable, she did wait 10 years for a guy. This is a relationship in which I can totally get behind- they really are cute together.
The action in this one seems ramped up a step. I love the politics of it all, and enjoyed watching Lena grow as a queen. Lorn, a shady character to begin with adds an extra sense of huh to the book. I feel completely bad for Kyol through out the entire book. Until the end- then I was just mouth open did that really just happen.
I pretty much loved this book that is until the end. Talk about a gamechanger event. Talk about a serious what the heck? moment. Followed by a really did that just happen? Then I remembered that I get to start the next book right away and so I stopped freaking out. Calmly went to bed and thought, McKenzie I will get caught up with you in the morning.
